who is Paul Robeson?
Paul Leroy Robeson was born on April 9, 1898, in Princeton, New Jersey. Robeson was a scholar, graduating as valedictorian of his class from Rutgers University in 1919. He was a linguist who was fluent in many languages, including Chinese, Russian, German and Spanish. He was an athlete who earned fifteen varsity letters in college. He was an actor who appeared in both on stage and in film. He was a singer whose distinctive voice can still be heard in recordings today. Most importantly, he was an activist who fought for the liberation and empowerment of all people throughout the world. Paul Robeson died in Philadelphia on January 23, 1976, at the age of seventy-seven.
